Explore Alamosa, Colorado

The City of Alamosa is located in the San Luis Valley in south central Colorado. The San Luis Valley is the largest intermountain valley in the world and features a dry climate with long cold winters and short cool summers. The population was 8,682 in 2005. It is home to Adams State College.

There are a number of fast food restaurants, shopping and an 18 hole championship golf course. The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is only a 45 minute drive from Alamosa. The San Luis Valley is home to many museums and historic sites. The town also hosts a SummerFest on the Rio which occurs the first weekend in June and the Early Iron car show over the Labor day weekend.

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad departs from Alamosa daily. The Great Lakes Airlines makes daily flights to Denver. There are many hotels to choose from and the Inn of the Rio Grande has an indoor waterpark.
